What is 'Squad' About?

The Ashin-do Kai squad is comprised of the A, B and C squads. 'A' squad are our team of members that compete regularly at tournaments, nationally and in some cases, internationally. 'B' and 'C' squads are our up and coming talents. Like A squad, they will be expected to attend extra training sessions and show commitment and dedication. Any B or C squad member may be moved up to  'A'  squad and asked to represent the club at tournaments, depending on their work during training.

Who is in which Squad? A list of squad members, training dates and other important information can be found by clicking this button. It is very important that ALL members check these pages regularly for updated information.

A Squad - Experienced competitors with a will to win
Nuri I have been doing karate since I was 6 when I was introduced to the club by a friend and have enjoyed it since then, working my way through the belt gradings. I have done several tournaments, national and international and the Ashin-do Kai and taken two 1st places, two 2nd places and a 3rd place. This year I will be entering more tournaments to gain more experience and push for more placings and wins. I passed my last grading in December 2007 and I am now black belt 2nd Dan. I train 3 times a week, plus squad training, which all helps keep me fit as well as sharp and focused.

Hunisha I started karate at Ashin-do Kai in 2001 when I was 9 yrs old. With lots of encouragement from Sensei Ricky and Sensei Lidiya, I learnt quickly and soon started entering competitions, first the Ashin-do Kai tournaments, followed by Nationals, Internationals and eventually World Championships. I have won gold, silver and bronze medals over many tournaments, culminating in 2006 and 2007 when I took Gold in the World Championships in both Kata and Kumite. I am a member of the British Karate Squad under the AMA and train with them regularly under Sensei Peter Allen. I train every week and love karate and want to carry on competing as I move up into the senior ranks.

I joined karate at Ashindo Kai in 2001 when I was 6 years old and trained very hard with the Sensei's and other students. I started entering competitions a couple of years later and now compete at International level  in my age group, taking Silver and Bronze medals in competitions at home and abroad. "When I was younger I did gymnastics and dance classes but when I moved to London I couldn't find the right kind of classes, so I started doing karate in September 2006 when a friend introduced me to the Ashin-do Kai club. I enjoyed it a lot and in the November of that year took part in the Ashin-do Kai tournament and took silver in my Kata group. After that I realised I wanted to do more so trained more often. Sensei Ricky and everyone at the club were very encouraging and in 2007 started entering the national tournaments, even taking bronze again for Kumite at my first tournament. I am now a Green Belt [6th Kyu] and train 3 nights a week as well as with the squad on Sundays. Karate keeps me very fit and I have also made some great new friends. I am looking forward to more tournaments and train very hard for them."
